ICF Building Process
Phoenix with its superior product and competitive pricing is ready to meet the challenges of today. National ICF exclusively brings Phoenix technology to the mid-Michigan.

Figure 1

A typical ICF jobsite shows that it is vital to get the first course straight, level and plumb. This provides the basis for stacking walls that are true and level all the way to the roof. Construction is fast with the lightweight polystyrene forms.

Figure 2

Setting window and door bucks in place and installing the bracing that will hold the walls straight and plumb during the concrete pour ensure that the planned openings in the building are properly located and ready to receive the windows and doors.

Figure 3

Walls are braced until the concrete is poured in the wall cavity. When the home has a second story, it is typical to pour the first level, leaving about half of the top course empty of concrete. In this way, when the second story is complete and concrete is poured into it, the join between the first and second pours (called a cold joint) is contained with the ICF itself, thus avoiding any potential loss of efficiency.

Figure 4

Phoenix ICFs have a very open interior a critical factor in eliminating voids within the wall as concrete is poured. There are no obstructions in the cavity or on the rounded surfaces of the tie so that concrete moves easily, completely filling the available space. Their design promotes a steady, controlled and easy flow of concrete.

Figure 5

Once the concrete is poured and the wall bracing is removed other building components such as roof trusses and interior framing can be installed. Phoenix ICF sizing is compatible with dimensional lumber, making installation of windows, doors and other items no different than in a conventional building.

Finished Home

There are literally no design limitations with ICF building – if you can imagine it, you can build it with ICF. An ICF home looks like any other home, but it performs much better. The buildings will last for several lifetimes without any deterioration of the wall system – no decay, rot or mold.
